How It Works
-
Furniture Sourcing
To get started, all you need is a piece of furniture. If you already have one that needs some TLC then you can send me some pictures to give an idea of what we are working with. It is helpful if you send pictures from a variety of angles and ideally one of the underside of the piece.
If you don’t have a piece, but have an idea of what sort of thing you are looking for, we can work with you to source something. Scouring antique fairs, junk shops, and auctions, we will be able to find you a unique piece of furniture that will be stamped with your personal style.
-
Traditional or Modern?
Depending on the piece of furniture and its age, we will determine if the piece needs to be finished in a traditional or a modern method.
Traditional methods tend to be slower and use natural materials. The upholstery is secured using linen and flax twines and traditionally made metal tacks.
Modern methods came into use after the Second World War and refer primarily to the use of foams in furniture. Upholstery will most often be secured with glues and staples.

Fabric Consulting
We have accounts with a number of fabric suppliers from the UK and further afield and will work with you to source and sample fabrics for your piece. There are a few factors to consider when choosing a fabric: durability, composition, style, and of course, the cost.
If you have a fabric you would like to use, we can assess its suitability and ensure it meets all fire regulations in the UK.

Costing
We will initially provide you with an estimate for your piece. An estimate gives the best idea of cost that we can provide at that time, but it may be subject to change. When an estimate is agreed, we can arrange pickup for your piece.
Upholstery is made up of many layers of stuffing and fabrics, and we may not know what is under the surface until those layers are removed. Occasionally, the wood frame of a chair is in bad condition or may have been damaged by woodworm or damp conditions. This may require extra work to overcome. Once the frame is assessed, we can provide you with a formal quote.
